QR Codes for Product Packaging

QR Codes for Product Packaging

Packaging is printed in runs of thousands and lives on a shelf for years. A dynamic code is the only kind that survives that timeline.

Each use case is solved by a different QR type — all available free on D-QR.

Instructions and manuals

Replace the folded insert nobody reads with a code that opens the current manual — and update it when the product revision changes.

Authenticity and warranty

Give every unit a unique code linking to a registration or verification page, generated in bulk from a CSV.

Reorder in one scan

Send the customer straight to the product page for a repeat purchase, with the code on the base of the pack where they will look when it runs out.

Recycling and sourcing info

Point at disposal instructions and supply-chain detail without spending pack real estate on small print.

URL QR

Seasonal promotions

Repoint the same printed code at a summer promotion, then at a holiday one, then back to the product page.

Support and feedback

Open a WhatsApp chat with support from the pack, so a problem becomes a conversation instead of a return.

Questions people ask

Straight answers to what usually decides whether this is the right tool for the job.

Where should the QR code go on the packaging?
Somewhere flat, matte, and reachable while the pack is held — the back panel or base usually beats the front. Avoid curved surfaces under about 5 cm diameter, seams, and glossy varnish, all of which defeat the camera.
How small can a QR code be on a pack?
About 2 cm square is a safe floor for a code scanned at arm’s length, and denser codes need more. Keep a clear quiet zone of at least four modules around the pattern; crowding it with artwork causes more scan failures than small size does.
Can I give every unit its own code?
Yes. Bulk generation takes a CSV and creates one unique, individually trackable code per row, which is what serialised warranty and authenticity programmes need.
What happens when the campaign behind the code ends?
Repoint the code. That is the whole argument for dynamic codes on packaging: the print run outlives the campaign by years, and a static code would turn into a dead link on every unit still on a shelf.
Does printing method affect scannability?
Yes. Flexographic printing on corrugated board spreads ink and can close the gaps between modules, so size up and test a real printed proof rather than a screen preview. Always scan the physical proof with several phones before signing off a run.
